About Keri
EMDR-Certified
Trauma and Relationship
Therapist
in California, Illinois, and Florida
I’m Keri Gnanashanmugam, LCSW, a licensed clinical social worker, EMDR Certified Trauma Therapist, and the founder of Root Psychotherapy.
My work centers on relationships—how early experiences shape the way we relate to ourselves, to others, and to the roles, responsibilities, and systems we move through every day. Many of the people I work with notice that the same patterns show up across different areas of life, not just in close relationships, but also in work, caregiving, decision-making, and how they relate to stress, time, and expectations.
Much of my work is with people who are thoughtful, emotionally aware, and motivated to grow, yet still find themselves repeating familiar relational patterns despite insight and effort. Over time, I’ve seen that this stuckness is often less about understanding why something happens and more about what’s needed for patterns to actually shift.
That realization shaped my approach.
My work is grounded in EMDR as the primary modality, supported by attachment-focused, relational, and somatic approaches. I specialize in helping clients work through trauma as it shows up in relationships—with people, with systems, and with the internal pressures they carry.
I work with individuals, couples, and groups, and tailor the format of therapy to what will be most effective and sustainable.
